Rush City utility project to start soon

By MaryHelen Swanson
Letters will soon be sent to the residents in the northeast part of the city of Rush City to inform them of the improvement projects that are about to begin.
Contracts were approved Monday, June 9, by the council for the street and utilities work.
The council also learned that the developerís agreement for Rush Creek Bluff has been worked out and finalized. This project is located east of the freeway and south of the Holiday station. It is planned to include a variety of housing styles and commercial business areas.
A request was presented by Sacred Heart Catholic Church to block off Field Avenue between 4th and 5th Street on Aug. 10 for a church festival.
City Administrator Daniel Hoffman was reluctant to encourage the councilmen to approve the request. The council agreed they wanted more information before making a decision.
Hoffman informed the council that the Rush City Area Chamber of Commerce will also be asking to block off a portion of a city street.
Mike Murphy, owner of Brookside Golf Course, was on hand to speak during the public comment period.
He is requesting a liquor license for the golf course. He has applied to the state for a license to serve food and is waiting for a response from the state health department.
He plans to serve food that golfers can grab and go with such as hot dogs, pizza, wraps, etc. He said for now he is keeping the menu simple. The main building, the former milking barn of the Erickson farm, has been remodeled for this purpose.
Murphy said itís not the same building any more inside and plans are to make a change in the appearance of the exterior.
Hoffman reminded everyone that Murphy has to have a restaurant in order to get a liquor license.
The council approved the liquor license application contingent upon the golf course receiving its state license to serve food.
Hoffman briefly spoke about the cityís state aid loss, noting that it is expected to be $72,000 in both 2003 and 2004.
He made no comment about how the loss will impact the cityís budget.
