Chester L. R. Swanson
Chester ìChetî Lawrence Richard Swanson of Harris, Minn. died June 4, 2003 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minn. He was 87 years of age. The second child of Rudolph and Jennie (Lundeen) Swanson, Chester was born December 2, 1915 in Fish Lake Township, Chisago County, Minn. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church of Harris in Harris, Minn., and attended school at Stark and Peaceful Valley. He was known to his family and friends as Chet. He was a dedicated farmer, and when he stopped that vocation he became an employee of the Blomquist Construction Company. Chet was a good gardener as well as a good farmer, and enjoyed growing flowers in his garden. As a sideline, he often trapped pocket gophers for neighboring farmers, which earned him the nickname of ìTrapper John.î He enjoyed his family and was always available to help when needed. Chet is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law: Pearl Wilcox of North Branch and Elsie and Jack Ouradnik of Beroun, Minn.; as well as many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Jennie Swanson; his brothers, Vernon, as an infant, and Ray, an older brother; and his brother-in-law, Weslie Wilcox. Funeral services were celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at First Lutheran Church in Harris with the Reverend Michael Likens officiating. Organist Carol Harstedt accompanied soloist Jon Ekstrom. Honorary casket bearers included Delano Olson, Harland Huenecke, Tim Bakken, Mike Neuman, Donald Reichkitzer, James Fairbanks, Douglas Kranz, Gordy Lehman, Jack Eiffler and Dennis Grover. Casket bearers were Kevin Mold, Thomas Shand, Richard Fairbanks, Jeffrey Kranz, Michael Johnson, and Irwin Turner with the interment at the Fish Lake Lutheran Cemetery at Stark, Minnesota. Arrangements were by the Funeral & Cremation Service of Rush City, Minnesota, Olson Chapel.
