In the best interest of all citizens
To the editor: At Monday nightís council meeting, June 9, three members of the council couldnít bend over backwards far enough for Fernwood Developer. Staff recommendation, and the attorney Millerís advice, didnít seem to phase Rod Lofquist, John Pace Jr., and Mayor Gloria Karsky. A letter of credit was the item on the table. Practice for the majority of the developers has been a letter of credit for 125 percent. Mr. VandenHuevel wants to continue with his 100 percent plus 25 percent bond. This, if a development went sour, could leave the city holding the bag. If special consideration is given for one, why not all? If Joe Developer, from another community comes in, he would certainly want the same deal. He might not have good credentials, but would he not be entitled under the law? I certainly wouldnít want to pay off his debt. A policy for all should be enforced with no special privileges. Maybe the citizens should have a contract with the elected officials, so that they remember to represent the best interests of all citizens. Hooray for Kathy Blomquist who showed common sense in that she also, along with staff, recommended the one policy of 125 percent to protect our interests. Barbara Burrington North Branch
