New dentist comes to NB

When Dr. Matt Peterson was looking at health care fields to study in college, he went somewhere a lot of people may not find too appealing.
Peterson decided he wanted to be a dentist.
Maybe there is a difference in going to the dentist and being the dentist himself, but Peterson hopes when he starts seeing patients at Sun Dental July 1 that he will be able to strike up some life-long relationships with them.
Peterson said he chose dentistry because it seems to have a more personal touch than other health care occupations. There are often less headaches when it comes to insurance and not every patient comes to you only when they are ill.
People should go to the dentist every six months for a check up.
After talking to his hometown dentist from New Prague, Peterson learned about the relationships that can be garnered from dentistry.
Peterson, 25, graduated in May from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
He started talking to Dr. Michael Grotheim in January when he and his fiance, Kristy, started looking in North Branch for jobs.
Grotheim and Peterson seem to be a perfect fit because both are genuinely interested in their patients and want to remain involved in the community.
Grotheim recently celebrated his 33rd year as a dentist in North Branch.
Peterson said he and Kristy were drawn to North Branch because it has a small town feel, but it is still growing.
ìWe wanted to come to someplace where we could raise our kids,î Peterson said. ìWe just love this town.î
Peterson said he wanted to find a place where he could build relationships with his patients, and eventually with neighbors when he and Kristy move here.
Kristy graduated in May from the University of Minnesota also. She works for a private company that works with autistic children and their families.
Peterson said he likes being outside doing pretty much anything. He said he loves camping and fishing.
