Paul W. Magner

Paul W. Magner of rural Taylors Falls, Minn. passed away on May 23, 2003 at St. Croix Regional Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Paul was born on Sept. 22, 1922 in Shafer Township to Otto and Alice Magner. He attended and graduated from Taylors Falls High School in 1939 and attended the University of Minnesota. During World War II, he took over the operation of the family farm until he sold it in 1994. In 1949, Paul married Frances Corey of Lindstrom, Minn. and they resided in the Magner family farm house until it burned in 1982. Paul and Frances had two children, Paula of Coon Rapids, Minn. and Leslie of Centuria, Wisc. and two grandchildren, Allison and Corey.
In addition to farming the original family farm, Paul also purchased and rented neighboring property to expand his farming operation. He had dairy cattle until the diary buy-out in the mid 1980s. Paul was also a Chisago County Commissioner during he 1970s. He served for 30 years on the Chisago Lakes Achievement Center board of directors. As a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Almelund, he also served on the church council. Memorials will be given to the Chisago Lakes Achievement Center and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and 5 brothers and sisters, Junette Dale, Rodney Magner, Marvel Ellis, Maydelle Haroldson, and John Magner. He is survived by his brother James Magner of Plymouth, Minn., his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Paul will be deeply missed by both family and friends.
Visitation for Paul W. Magner was Tuesday, May 27, 2003 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minn. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Almelund, Minn. with Pastor Brian Bergin officiating. Music was provided by Norm Peterson, Sherrie Nordquist, and Carol Prescher.
