Louise E. Shuey
Louise Eleanor Shuey of Pine City, Minnesota, passed away Friday, March 14, 2003 at the Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge, Minnesota. She was 97 years of age. Born at Pine City on April 21, 1905, Louise was the daughter of John and Emelie (Schmidt) Engler. She attended Hustletown School District No. 1, and the Hustletown Church. She later went on to attend Pine City High School. On August 1, 1921, Louise married Arthur Bloom of Rush City, Minnesota. To this union one son, Kenneth, was born. Louise and Kenneth had been on their own for several years when she met Clair Shuey, who had been widowed and was raising six children ñ Raymond, Alice, Phyllis, Dianne, Robert, and Mary Lou - by himself on the family farm. Louise fell in love with both Clair and the children, and they were married on June 7, 1936. To this marriage their daughter, Patricia, was born. Their big white farmhouse was full of activity with eight children, usually a hired man, and the local schoolteacher. Louise became well known in the neighborhood for her excellent cooking, breads, canning, and baking. Many local brides enjoyed her beautiful wedding cakes. She also helped Clair with the outside farm chores such as milking the cows, detasseling the well-known Shuey Hybrid Seed Corn, and raising chickens. Louise enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and doing crafts. She faithfully remembered the family birthdays and the holidays. Her faith in Jesus Christ was dominant in her life, and she remained an active member of the Pine City Evangelical Free Church in Pine City. Louise was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Bloom and Clair Shuey; her sons, Kenneth Bloom and Raymond Shuey; her daughter, Phyllis Shuey; grandson, Jerome Bloom; great granddaughter, Hannah Leah Abramowitz; sisters: Augusta Wiedemann, Florence Swanson, Lena Wicklund, Ida Beavers, Emelie Birkeland, and Helen Wiseman; and her brothers, Walter and Herman Engler.
