Boys end season with loss
The Tiger boys basketball team ended its regular season with a tough 52-50 non-conference loss to St. Johnís Feb. 28. It was the second straight loss for the team by less than three points. The Tigers took a 13-9 lead after one, but were outscored 13-8 in the second to trail 22-21 at halftime. Both teams scored 17 in the third to keep the Tigers one back going into the fourth. They tallied 12 in the fourth but were unable to overcome the Johnnies for the 52-50 loss. ìThe game was as close as the stats indicate,î Head Coach Gary Dreissig said. ìBoth teams shot 40 percent from the field and the difference was the Johnnies made 6 three-pointers to our 2.î The Tigers had 8 players in the scoring column, led by Brett Dreissig with 10 points and Kris Guentzel with 8. Kellin Sybrant picked up 7 and Joe Prettner and Tim Karnick tallied 6 apiece. The Tigers began subsection 1A, Region 4A playoffs with a qualifying round game Tuesday against Minnesota Transition. A win would advance the squad to the quarterfinals against East Central Thursday, March 6, with semifinals following on Saturday, March 8 and finals at Elk River Tuesday, March 11.
