Track takes on tough tests as season draws to end
The North Branch track teams are using a week without any competitions to hone their skills as members prepare for the Rum River Conference meet tomorrow, May 15 at Princeton. Last week, the teams competed in a True Team meet at Totino Grace, pitted against some of the toughest Class AA competition. The boys came in eighth place out of 14 teams. The boys were led by Phil Olson, taking second in discus with a throw of 121í1î and Mike Dahlke with a third place finish in the triple jump, with a jump of 41í8î. Dahlke was also sixth in the long jump, with a jump of 18í11.75î. Bo McClaskie earned third place in the pole vault, clearing 12í6î. The 3200m relay team of Nick Ramberg, Mike Ferguson, Nick Sausen and Sam Suparat took sixth place, with a time of 9:00.40. Korey Hutchings finished seventh in the 400m dash, with a time of :53.10 and Derek Moss was seventh in the shot put with a put of 42í3.75î. Rounding out the scoring for the boys was the 1600m relay team of Jake Kosky, Marc Vanden Heuvel, Kevin Gervais and Hutchings, taking eighth place with a time of 3:42.00. The girls squad finished in 11th place out of 14 teams. Mora was first with 772 points. Rauna Dallman had the teamís lone first place finish, coming in the high jump. She cleared 5í2î for the win. Sheena Devine captured two second place finishes, in the discus with a throw of 114í1î and the shot put with a put of 41í.5î. Jacque Wagner was third in the shot put with a put of 32í11.5î. In the 100m hurdles, Jenny Anderson was third with a time of :16.50. Anderson was also fourth in the 300m hurdles with a time of :49.80. The 800m relay team of Trissica Bye, Dallman, Kacie Ramberg and Lindsey Bond came in fourth, with a time of 1:55.70. On May 2, the girls traveled to the Chisago Lakes Invite while the boys squad headed to the White Bear Lake Invite. Both teams faced strong competition in section and non-section opponents. Highlights of the girls contest included a first place from the 800m relay team of Bye, Dallman, Anderson and Ramberg with a time of 1:58.20 and a first place finish from Ramberg in the 200m dash, with a time of :32.90. Ramberg was also second in the 400m dash, with a time of 1:05.20. Anderson took second in the 100m hurdles, with a time of :17.10. Devine took second in shot put, with a put of 39í11.75î and discus, with a throw of 113í11î. Dallman was second in high jump, clearing 4í10î. The boys faced teams including White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi and Buffalo, turning in one second place finish. It came from Dahlke, taking second in the long jump, with a jump of 19í2î. He was also third in the triple jump, with a jump of 40í9î. Four athletes who normally compete in field events combined to take third in the throwerís 400m relay event: Moss, Billy Oehlers, Zach Backus and Olson. They finished with a time of :55.40. Head Coach Brian Hasleiet had a week of practices to work on the teamís performances before the important RRC meet. Next week, the team finishes the regular season with a meet May 20 and the North Branch Invite May 22.
