RC girls golf earns third GRC win
The Rush City girls golf team picked up another important Great River Conference win last week, as the squad turned in the low score against Hinckley-Finlayson. The team faced off against golfers from Hinckley, Braham and East Central; complete team scores were turned in by only the Rush City and Hinckley teams. The Tigers turned in a round of 234 to defeat Hinckley. The Jaguars had a round of 253. Leading the Tigers was Megan Twingstrom with a 56, while Asha Saari finished with a 58, Roxanne Jennings with a 59 and Heather Johnson with a 61. It was the third conference win for the Tigers this season. The boys also had a successful round, despite a third place finish out of four teams. The squad, led by Chris Lindstrom and Brandon Rands with rounds of 43, turned in its lowest team score of the season with a 182. Both Lindstrom and Rands also had their best rounds of the year. Other scores for the team were Chris Sorenson and Tim Karnick, both with rounds of 48. Both teams were scheduled to finish the regular season with an 18-hole GRC meet Monday at Aitkin. The meet is crucial for the girls squad, as they went into it with 15 points in the conference and second place in the standings behind Isle. Subsections are scheduled for Tuesday, May 20 at Hinckley Grand National for both teams.
