NB instructor is Wal-Mart 2003 Teacher of the Year

Sierra Eydgahi, a 4th-grade student at the North Branch Main Street School, submitted an entry to the Cambridge Wal-Mart nominating her teacher, Cathy Ziegler, for the 2003 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year contest. Sierraís entry was chosen out of approximately 40 entries as the winner.
Gary Steffenson, assistant manager of the Cambridge Wal-Mart store presented the award to Cathy Ziegler on Wednesday, May 7 at an all school assembly in conjunction with National Teacher and Staff Appreciation week.
Principal Sara Svir thanked the Wal-Mart Foundation for recognizing the importance of teachers and their influence on students. She also thanked the students, teachers and staff at the Main Street School for everything that they do to contribute to the studentís education.
Eydgahi read her winning entry to her fellow classmates, teachers and staff from the Main Street School. Steffenson then presented Ziegler a plaque commemorating this event, a 2003 Teacher of the Year Wal-Mart vest and a $1,000 check for the Main Street School.
Ziegler thanked Steffenson, the Wal-Mart Foundation, Eydgahi for taking the time to write such wonderful things, and the entire student body and staff for everything they do. Ziegler also stated that it is a teacherís hope to touch the lives of her students in a positive manner and it is great that Wal-Mart gives students the opportunity to do this in a public setting.
