RC track meets tough competition at CL Invite

The Rush City track teams met with tough competition from several Class AA schools at the Chisago Lakes Invitational May 2, but was able to capture several top finishes.
Competing against teams from North Branch, Chisago Lakes, Princeton, Minnehaha Academy, Proctor, Frederic and Osceola, the Tiger girls earned sixth place in the meet with 82 points. The boys had only three top finishes in their portion of the meet, coming in eighth place.
The girls team from Osceola captured first place in the meet with 151 points, followed by Chisago Lakes in second and North Branch in third.
For the girls, Christine Frandsen dominated the distance events, capturing first place in the 1600m run with a time of 5:32 and first in the 3200m run with a time of 12:13.
Britta Johnson earned the only other first place finish for the girls squad, taking first in the 400m dash with a time of 1:05.
Johnson also took second in the triple jump, with a jump of 31í9î and third in the 200m dash with a time of :28.34. Liz Melin took third in the triple jump for Rush City, with a jump of 30í6.5î.
Melin was third in the 100m hurdles with a time of :18.77, and the 1600m medley relay team also captured fourth place, with a time of 5:06.
Alex Saxton was fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of :18.77.
The boys team from Osceola joined the girls team from the school to sweep first place in the meet. Chisago Lakes was second and Minnehaha third.
No individual boys competitors finished in the top eight for the Tiger boys. Top finishes came from the 3200m relay team and 1600m medley relay teams, both finishing in sixth place.
Both teams were scheduled to compete at Hinckley-Finlayson May 9, but the meet was cancelled due to inclement weather.
This week, both squads were scheduled to compete at the Great River Conference meet at Hinckley Tuesday. Following a week off from competition, the teams will take part in the subsection meet Wednesday, May 21 at Ogilvie.
