Evelyn M. Vaughn

Earlier this year increasing health problems caused Evelyn Mabel Vaughn of Rush City to become a resident of the Lakeside Nursing Home in Pine City, Minn. She died there on May 6, 2003, having reached the age of 84 years.
Evelyn, the daughter of Leon and Mabel (McElroy) Little, was born Nov. 14, 1918 in Eau Claire, Wisc.
A long time resident of Rush City, Minn., she also lived at Hibbing, Minn. at one time.
On Feb. 11, 1939, Evelyn was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Vaughn at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City. They made their home in Rush City and have lived there since that time.
As a young person, Evelyn was employed as a telephone operator for the phone company in Rush City. And for several years during the 1960ís, she and Kenny owned and operated the Koffee Kup Restaurant in Rush City. It proved to be a popular gathering place for local residents as well as for people from out of town.
Evelynís hobbies were many. She seemed to have the proverbial green thumb that enabled her to grow African violets, however, she enjoyed all kinds of flowers. She was a volunteer driver for transporting patients to doctor appointments, or for therapy if that was the need. For many years she was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the VFW Auxiliary in Rush City. In later years she and Kenny enjoyed going for coffee and meeting friends at the Grant House in Rush City and the Rock Creek Motor Stop in Rock Creek, Minn.
She is survived by her husband, Kenny; her sons: Richard Wilcox and Don Vaughn, both of Rush City; her grandchildren: Lynette, Brett, and Leanne Wilcox, Sean (Becky) Vaughn, and Shannon (Bill) Rambow; great-grandchildren Robyn Rambow, other great-grandchildren in Garden Grove, Calif., sister and brother-in-law: Lois and Wallace Kortmann, Woodbury, Minn.; and her son-in-law: Roger Christensen, Rush City.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Little, and her mother, Mabel Kelley; daughter, Marlyce Christensen; daughter-in-law, Kathy Vaughn; and her brother, Willard Little.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 9, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City with the Reverend Laurie OíShea officiating. Organist for the service was Dianne Kirchberg and soloist was Jan Goebel. Casket bearers were Joe Johnson, John Ulrick, Dale Heidelberger, Lloyd Gilbey, Mel Shoberg, and Mike Herring. Interment was at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City. Arrangements were by the Funeral & Cremation Service of Rush City, Minnesota, Olson Chapel.
