Checked out facts for himself
To the editor: After reading Sen. Nienowís letter about his vote on the Hwy. 95/I-35 bridge and the Senate transportation bill, I decided to look at the facts for myself on the Senate Web site. The transportation bill with the funding for the bridge (called the Omnibus Transportation Bill) came to the Senate as House File #627. The Senate voted on HF#627 on May 2nd. Senator Nienow voted against this bill. He voted against the bridge. In his own words, itís a matter of record. Regarding his own bill that he introduced in the Senate, SF#1534, providing funding for the bridge project, he states in his letter I did not vote against that bill. The record shows he also didnít vote for his billÝñ Ýwhich means, in my book, he voted against it. I take exception to his statement we are as close to getting that bridge replaced as we have ever been. With the way he is voting, I think we were closer to getting that bridge built when my late wife, Sen. Janet Johnson, was chair of the Senate Transportation Funding Committee. At least she was firmly in support of the bridge project and didnít use smoke and mirrors to confuse the voters. Dennis Odin Johnson North Branch
