Softball heads into subsection play

The Rush City girls softball squad finished the regular season with four games in four days last week. The result was 2 wins, 2 losses and a 7-4 finish in the Great River Conference.
The Tigers started the week last Monday with a game at Isle, falling in a 6-3 loss.
Isle took an early lead with 1 run in the first and picked up 2 more in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
Rush City came back with 1 run in the fifth, but was answered by 3 more Isle runs in the inning. The Tigers rallied to score 2 in the sixth, but were unable to overcome the 3-run deficit.
For the game, Meghan OíShea was 3 for 4 with 3 singles. Page Rieland pitched for the loss.
The next day, Rush City hosted Braham and fell 13-1 in five innings.
The Tigers struggled at the plate, picking up only four hits in the game. The teamís lone run came off a solo home run from Sandy Johnson in the second inning.
The team rebounded last Wednesday with a 10-2 win over Barnum, coming out of its hitting slump somewhat by tallying 6 hits.
Rush City started the scoring with a run in the first for the early 1-0 lead.
The Tigers took the dominating 6-0 lead with 5 more runs in the fourth inning. Jess Prettner and Nicole Meis hit back-to-back singles, and Sammie Saxton walked to load the bases. All three scored on passed balls and a walk to Brittany Wendorf. Wendorf and Rieland also scored in the inning.
Barnum picked up its 2 runs in the fifth. Rush City scattered 4 more runs over the last three innings for the 10-2 win.
The team ended its tough weekly schedule with a win over East Central May 15, in a 7-2 decision.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second, before the Tigers tied it up with a run in the third.
Rush City expanded its lead with 3 more runs in the fourth and 3 in the fifth to seal the win.
Holly Grimes was 2 for 3 to lead the offense, including a single and a triple. There were 5 other hits in the game for the Tigers.
The team finishes with a 10-7 record overall as it heads into subsection play.
As the No. 3 seed in section 5A, the Tigers were scheduled to face East Central again Tuesday, May 20. A win would pit the Tigers against Ogilvie Wednesday at Braham, with finals set for Thursday.
