Jennings advances to finals -RC golfer finishes sixth at subsectionsRush City junior Roxanne Jennings advanced to the section finals Tuesday, May 27 with a round of 99 at the subsection 25A meet May 20 at Hinckleyís Grand National. Jennings golfed consistently throughout the day, just as she has throughout a very successful 2003 season. Her score of 99 gave Jennings sixth place out of individual golfers at the meet. The top 10 golfers advanced to the section finals at Pokegama Golf Course in Grand Rapids Tuesday, as well as the top two teams in the section. Crosby-Ironton and Esko-Carlton claimed the top two team spots. Rush City finished with a 474 for ninth place in the 10-team section. Other scores for the Tigers were freshman Tasha Truskolaski with a 120, junior Cara Orn with a 127 and junior Heather Johnson with a 128. Freshman Megan Twingstrom also shot a 128 while sophomore Asha Saari had a 130. For the boys team, junior Willie Barth led the way with an 86, followed by junior Tim Morris with an 87. Junior Chris Sorenson finished with a 92 and senior Shawn Twingstrom rounded out his high school career with a 93. The teamís total of 358 gave the boys squad seventh place out of 14 teams. Advancing to the finals were teams from Marshall and Hinckley-Finlayson. Barth missed the top ten cut by only two strokes to advance to the finals as well. Morris had his best round of the season. ěThe boys finished with some of their best rounds of the year,î he said. ěIt was great to finish seventh out of 14 teams. We have a lot to look forward to for next year.î A top finish at the section finals would advance Jennings to the Girls Class A State Golf Meet, June 3-5 at Izatys Yacht and Golf Club. ©ECM Post Review |
