Tigers pound EC 23-1 to open section playIt will go down as one of the best offensive performances in many years for the Rush City softball team. The Tigers totally obliterated East Central in the first round of section 5A play May 20, amassing 20 hits and 23 runs in only 4 innings of play. ìPicking up 20 hits in a fast pitch game is quite an accomplishment,î Head Coach Rick Kosloski said. All 23 runs for Rush City came in only 3 innings, starting in the second inning. Nicole Meis led off with a single and the team took off from there. Also collecting singles in the inning were Sandy Johnson (2 hits), Sammie Saxton, Meghan OíShea, Jess Prettner (double) and Breann Stottler (triple). The collection of hits and a couple of walks gave the Tigers a commanding 12-0 lead after two innings of play. Without letting up, Rush City came back to add 9 runs in the third inning and 2 more in the fourth. The team allowed only 1 run to East Central, coming in the fourth inning on errors. OíShea, Prettner, Johnson and Mindy Scott all collected 3 hits in the outing. Scott had a double and triple and 3 RBI and Johnson had a triple and 3 RBI. Meis, Stottler and Saxton had 2 hits apiece, while Rieland and Holly Grimes each had 1 hit. ìAll nine starters had at least one hit. Thatís quite a feat,î Kosloski said. The team went on to face Ogilvie at Braham May 21 in the section semifinals, falling in a close 4-3 battle to end the season. With talented players including Stottler, OíShea, Karvonen, Scott, Grimes, Wendorf and Johnson back in next yearís lineup, the team will had a solid core to build upon. The squad will have to fill the shoes left behind by this yearís graduating seniors: Prettner, Meis, Rieland and Saxton, who contributed big bats and solid defense for this yearís squad. ©ECM Post Review |
