May is Community Action Month

Lakes and Pines Community Action Council, Inc., serving Aitkin, Carlton, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs and Pine counties is East Central Minnesotaís Community Action Agency. Along with 29 other community action agencyís throughout Minnesota and over 1,000 such organizations across the nation, Lakes and Pines will be celebrating National Community Action Month during the month of May.
The Agency provides a large array of services that address the needs of economically disadvantaged individuals and families throughout the area such as: housing rehabilitation loan programs, energy assistance and energy conservation services, small cities development-housing and public facility administration services, family homeless prevention (foreclosure, eviction assistance), emergency food and shelter help, Head Start and other child/family development programs, education and transportation assistance.
The month of May will also mark a revitalized movement within the Lakes and Pines Agency. Called ìMove the Mountainî or ìTransformational Leadership,î the agency will continue to provide direct services to those in need, but, will enhance efforts of creating community change and development. The primary cornerstone supporting the Transformational Leadership movement is bringing about community and individual change so that all within the community, inclusive of the lower income citizens, become benefactors of that change. The result being, diminishing and hopefully, eliminating poverty throughout the whole community. These are exciting times that will be emphasized during Community Action Month.
