NB girls golf wins Princeton meet

The North Branch girls golf team traveled to Princeton on April 29 to face the host Tigers and the Big Lake golfers in a tri-meet that North Branch dominated.
The weather was pleasant with a temperature of 55 degrees and slightly overcast.
The Viking golfers took advantage of relatively calm winds to play their best round of the year.
As a result, North Branch won the event by a comfortable margin, finishing with a 211. Princeton was second with 261, followed by Big Lake with 269.
Individually, two Vikings had their best rounds of the season.
Hanna Lindberg led the field with a very nice 48 despite a 5 putt hole.
Sara Schwalbe used some good tee shots to help her to a very respectable 52, according to Head Coach Dave Ambers.
Meanwhile, Lacee Scherer continued her consistent play with a 52. Amy Aho climbed back into the 50's with a 59 to complete our team scoring.
ìIt always seems to take longer for Princetonís greens to start growing than at our home course,î Ambers said. ìAs a result the girls had a little trouble adjusting to the speed of the greens, so we had a few more putts than we should have.
ìEven with those extra putts, we still had our best meet of the season.î
The girls team seems to be gaining some confidence, Ambers said.
The team traveled to Pine City May 1 and Chisago Lakes May 2 for two tri-meets.
The weather was beautiful ñ in the low 60s and mostly sunny both days and the results also were just as beautiful.
The Vikes finished second Thursday with a 215, and second Friday with a 217. Lindberg led the team Thursday with a 51 and Scherer led Friday with an identical score.
ìI was very happy with the scores we posted on both days. This was a long week for the girls with four on-the-road meets in five days.
ìIt would have been easy for them to get tired of bus rides and fast food. Instead, they responded well,î Ambers said.
After five events, North Branch has 6 points, which should place them in the middle of the conference rankings.
