Despite having seven losses on the book this season, the North Branch softball team is doing everything right when it comes to facing Rum River Conference opponents. Last week, the squad earned another win in the RRC race, this one coming against Big Lake. Big Lake came into the contest ranked No. 10 in Class AA in the state, but suffered a 7-2 loss at the hands of the Vikings. Traci Reimann walked to lead off the inning, advanced on a single from Sarah Rauen and scored on an error. Nikki Scaramell scored Rauen with a double. The Vikes took the lead with 2 more in the fifth, coming off a triple from Reimann, a walk to Shannon OíHern and several wild pitches. North Branch sealed the win with 3 more runs in the sixth inning, as Reimann unloaded with a three-run home run over the center field fence. Brooke Beaver earned the win for the VIkes, allowing 6 hits and striking out 1. ěThis was a big win over a good team that helps keep us with the other conference leaders,î Head Coach Larry Brodin said.
