Ton of waste collected near river
To the editor: A big Audubon thank you to the 25 people who turned out on Saturday morning (May 3rd) for the Sunrise River Clean-Up. Over a ton of waste was collected in and around the Sunrise River from Hwy. 95 to the St. Croix River. An old desk and an asphalt shingle roof were among the interesting items collected. Boy Scout Troop 135 from Chisago Lakes Lutheran was well represented again this year with the following scouts and leaders: Shane Hultman, Matt Fitzer, Rollie Westman, Rob Vetter, Lloyd Vetter, many Erdmans (Adam, Josh, Tom, and Joe), T.J. Waddell, Steve Tomasek, Tony Olmschenk, Shawn Bluhm, Nik Rasmussen, Ethan Herberg, Greg Olmschenk, Mitch Carroll, and Bruce Carlsted. Three students from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis: Chris Cremons, Andrew Rischall and Steve Rupp, met an environmental service requirement for a class by volunteering and Wild River Audubon was represented by Ken Reine, Craig Poorker, Dayle DeClercq, and Gary Noren. Special thanks to Willie and Jerry from Waste Management, Inc., Northern Wisconsin, for providing hamburgers, chips and soda for all of the hungry volunteers at noon. Waste Management also hauled and disposed of all of the collected trash. See you all again next year. Gary Noren Wild River Audubon
