Traffic, medicals and assists top RC 2002 police actions
By MaryHelen Swanson Traffic incidents topped the responses on the list of police activities in Rush City for 2002, and at 212, far exceeded the 2001 number of 142. These incidents include moving violations and no licenses. Deputies on duty in the city responded to 185 medical calls, up slightly from 2001. Assists and miscellaneous calls were at 292, down from 2001ís 348. The department reported 144 alarm calls and 112 disturbance calls in the annual report, which included 911 hang-ups and domestics. The calls were reported to the Rush City Council by Corporal Robert Berg at the April 28 meeting. Berg was assigned to Rush City from the Chisago County Sheriffís Department through the cityís contract. The calls are broken into 33 categories. If you ask what the deputies do in Rush City, the list will give you an idea. In 2002, they also responded to 27 fire calls in the city limits, dealt with 32 drug cases (20 the year before), 3 terroristic threats, 16 minors consuming alcohol (6 the year before) and 30 traffic accidents. The deputies handled 13 DUIs and 30 ordinance violations (70 the year before). During 2002, the deputies in Rush City dealt with 55 criminal damage to property cases and 35 cases of forgery and non-sufficient funds from checks. Auto thefts were down, 6 compared to 13 in 2001, but thefts in general were up, 77 in 2002, 40 in 2001. Complaints about animals numbered 32, assaults 17, burglaries 7 and juvenile offenses 47 (down from 59 in 2001). There were no weapons violations documented, but 13 parking complaints and one littering complaint. The deputies also dealt with 100 warrants and had 66 assists to other agencies and 63 incidents of suspicious activity. Total incidents - 1,633.
