Time to look nice and be on our best manners

Craft fairs attract people like ants to a drop of pancake syrup.
Soon folks will be stopping by our communities to partake in holiday events, craft sales, plays, concerts, etc. Some of the businesses are already sprucing up for the happy season ahead. I know, for many itís too early, but when you think about it, the holiday celebrations are not that far away.
And with people working so many hours of each day, one can hardly wait until the last minute to do all that people think needs to be done in order to have a successful occasion.
So, with many people coming into our towns for various reasons, itís time for a gentle reminder to be nice to our visitors and have our businesses and community buildings looking festive and at their best.
Nothing turns people off to a community more than rude people, whether they be cashiers at a gas station or vendors at a craft sale.
Remember, the smile carries more miles than a frown. And a pleasant voice is more soothing to the ear than a grumpy retort.
At many of the customer service workshops I attend, we are taught to always be nice to customers, and other people we encounter, even co-workers, for a more congenial atmosphere. Holidays should be congenial experiences.
Holiday shopping can be rushed and harried. People often lose sight of the real meanings of the holidays and a lot of pressure is put on making every moment of the celebrations absolutely perfect.
Perfect is on the pages of Betters Homes and Gardens. Reality is in our own homes where trees fall down, gift sweaters are the wrong size and turkeys get over cooked.
Never-the-less, when these visitors come to our towns, letís be nice and share some pleasant moments in this coming holiday season. Then perhaps when they talk about us they will say, ìHey, those folks are really nice.î
And perhaps theyíll come back and boost the economy of our towns by doing other shopping here, or brings friends with them next time they come by, or find our communities so warm and friendly they will want to move here.
At the very least, theyíll know we are friendly people. But I already knew that, didnít you? Happy holiday preparations.
