Questions photo and caption

To the editor:

Re: MCCL Volunteers Energized (photo and caption - Wednesday, October 29, 2003)ÝÝÝ

Please assure me that the printing and placing of this photo and caption was all a big mistake.ÝFor how else could a reputable newspaper explain the publication of what was so blatantly an advertisement for a particular ideological position?Ý Ý

The Post Reviewís verbatim use of the MCCLís patently deceptive language is insulting to anyone who doesnít believe - or at the very least has the courage to question - the misleading rhetoric of the MCCL.ÝYour readers deserve the truth:

1. the so-called Taxpayer Protection Act is nothing more than state-sponsored censorship of medical information dressed-up in patriot terms. If adopted the legislation would lead to a breathtaking and wholly unnecessary regulation on the distribution of state family planning funds and would result in an increase of abortion rate in Minnesota by nearly doubling the unintended pregnancy rate (nearly 1 out of every 2 unintended pregnancies results in abortion); 2.

3. it is factually incorrect at best - and downright irresponsible at worst for the Post Review to use the phrase the abortion industry to describe pro-choice advocates.Ý We are on the side of women not politicians, government or self-appointed juries like the MCCL - making decisions that are best for them.Ý

We believe that the women of Minnesota have the intelligence, integrity and judgment to make their own reproductive health care decisions;4.

5. the so-called unborn victims of violence act shamelessly sponsored by the MCCLís handpicked senator, Norm Coleman, seeks to grant fetus at any stage of development legal rights equal to those of the woman.Ý

In addition to undermining Roe v. Wade, the bill could lead to state regulation of a womanís pregnancy while doing absolutely nothing to end the epidemic of violence against women in this country.6. 7. Minnesota is not one of the strongest pro-life states in the U.S. In fact, a poll by the Star Tribune (January 19, 2003) showed that 57 percent of those surveyed supported legalized abortion.8.
