Helen Lorraine (Lind) Zemek

Helen Lorraine (Lind) Zemek, age 75, passed away Nov. 1, 2003, at home.
She was born June 28, 1928 in Fish Lake Township, rural Rush City, Minn., the second of five children to Ruebin J. and Mildred E. (Swanson) Lind.
Helen grew up on the family farm, was baptized, confirmed, and married at Fish Lake Lutheran Church. There she taught Sunday School and belonged to Luther League. She attended Reed Elementary School, District 33, and was active in 4-H. She graduated from Rush City High School.
At an early age, she began working and held positions at Rush City Hospital and Dawning Nursing Home. She provided in-home care for a homebound woman while attending high school.
On Nov. 19, 1946, Helen married Charles Valerine Zemek of Beroun, Minn. They were blessed with three children: Duane, Diane, and David.
For a short time, they made their home in St. Paul where Helen was employed by Oxidite Battery and Montgomery Ward.
After moving to Pine City, they became members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and enjoyed the Jolly Disciples group and the womenís circles. She also contributed her time and efforts as a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout assistant, and PTA member.
Helen kept busy with volunteer work as president and state committee member of the United Fund drive. She was commander and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Helen loved nature, trees, and her many flowers. She took pleasure in landscaping, decorating, and cooking. Her attention to detail and beauty were evident in her peony gardens, her home on the river, her holiday decorations of lights and the ěDickenís Villageî, and the many recipes that became family favorites. Most of all, she loved being with her family and sharing in their achievements. It was a joy to go camping and traveling the forty-eight continental states together. Later on, she enjoyed trips to Europe.
She will be remembered with love by her husband, Chuck; son, Duane and daughter-in-law, Karen of Pine City, and daughter, Diane Cmiel and son-in-law, David of Roseville; nine grandchildren, Michael Zemek and his wife Sangeetha of East Moline, Ill., Charles Zemek and his wife Heidi of Victoria, Jonathan Zemek and his wife Amy of Pine City, Kristofer Zemek of Litchfield, Holly Zemek of Faribault, Adam Zemek and Rebekah Zemek of Pine City, Nathan Cmiel and Nicholas Cmiel of Roseville; four great-grandchildren, Alex-ander, Jarrett, and Arica Zemek of Pine City, and Callen Zemek of Victoria; three brothers, Donald Lind and his wife Donna of Rush City, Arthur Lind and his wife Jean of Shoreview, Eugene Lind and his wife Janice of Rush City; and sister Clarice Olson and her husband Curtis of Stanchfield; cousins, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Ruebin and
Mildred Lind, and son, David Calvin Zemek.
Funeral services were held Nov. 5, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City. The Rev. Jack Koch officiated. Special music was provided by grandson Michael Zemek and his wife Sangeetha Rayapati and organist Glenna Reierson. Casket bearers were grandsons: Charles Zemek, Jonathan Zemek, Kristofer Zemek, Nathan Cmiel, Nicholas Cmiel and Adam Zemek. The cross bearer was granddaughter Holly Zemek. The processional was led by granddaughter Rebekah Zemek.
Burial was at Fish Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery in Stark, Minn. Arrangements made by the Swanson Funeral and Cremation Service, Pine City, Minn.
