This year is last for Ellingsonís Tree FarmBy Barbara Brown However, area families that traditionally visit Ellingsonís Arbor Acres on the west side of North Branch will have to soak up their last year of following that tradition. Dave Ellingson announced last week that he and his wife, Pat, will stop selling trees after this season. Opened in 1967, Ellingsonís tree farm has grown, but has remained a one-family operation. Dave Ellingson spends every day researching new tree varieties and ensuring that they are watered, fed and given the right amount of sunlight. He plants about 2,000 trees each spring on his 40 acres to ensure good regrowth. Ellingson prides himself on the freshness of the pre-cut trees on his lot. He picks them out himself from local growers and goes out about a week before Thanksgiving to collect the trees. Ellingson said he got into the business because he had always had an interest in forestry and trees. Ellingsonís gift shop, located at the same site as the tree farm, will remain open from May through December. The tree farm and gift shop will be featured on KARE 11 on Nov. 30 at 10:30 p.m. and on Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. during the program ìMinnesota Bound.î For information, call Ellingsonís at (651) 674-2059. ©ECM Post Review |
