Frandsen finishes in top half at state

By Danielle Strenke
Rush City junior Christine Frandsen finished 78th out of 158 runners at the State Class A Cross Country Meet Saturday, Nov. 1 at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

Her time of 16:05 wasnít her fastest of the season, but Frandsen was just pleased to have the experience.

ìI just wanted to make it to a state competition sometime in my high school career, and Iíve done that now,î she said.

Frandsen said it was difficult to get a strong start with so many runners at the starting line. ìIt was kind of packed,î she said.

After that, she said it opened up and she ran much of the race with the same pack of 10 runners.

ìThe course went by fast ñ it wasnít that difficult,î she said.

Although she didnít make her personal goal of finishing in the top 25, it was a good way for Frandsen to end her cross country year. She is already looking forward to building off of this experience running on next yearís team as a senior.

Her dad, Bob, was at the finish line to congratulate Frandsen at the end of the race. ìHe said he was proud of me,î she said.

The Class A race was won by Nikki Swenson from Lac qui Parle Valley, who set a course record with her time of 14:27.
