Compromising economic recovery

To the editor:
As the death count mounts does that give us pause about our continued intervention in Iraq. It does little good, ìafter the fact,î to conclude that our invasion of Iraq was a mistake. Congress is in the process of authorizing at leastİ$80 billion more, primarily forİmilitaryİcosts associated with our presence in Iraq.İThink about the fact that our annual militaryİbudgetİincreased from around $300 billion to $400 billion and you can begin to see the problem. Think of how those funds could have been used to eradicate preventable diseases, hunger and starvation, and to do good. We destroyed the infrastructure of Iraq and now are asking the rest of the world to rebuild it, even though they were opposed to our invasion of Iraq in the first place.
We cannot change the past, but we need to speak out against this failed military policy before it reaches the point it did in Vietnam.
We are compromising economic recovery, social programs, world peace with an out-of-control national debt, skyrocketing costs to continue the warİagainst Iraqİand the lack of a sound exit strategy for Iraq.
