Girls tennis falls short in playoffsDespite great play and outstanding effort, the Viking tennis team fell short in the first round of sections, losing 1-6 to Anoka last week. ėThey played great and had very close matches,î Head Coach Kristin Unverzagt said. ėThey were fun to watch and the girls played great, but it was not enough.î Nicole Granberg stepped up at number one singles and did a great job staying in every point. Amber Heilig played two singles and had very close games with her opponent. 4th singles was very exciting as Michelle Zellmer fell short, but gave tremendous effort. Doubles kept it exciting all the way down the line up. The OíHern sisters (Shannon and Kelsey) played first doubles and won in three sets. They played great and had a very close match. Second doubles was led by seniors Maren Anderson and Felicia Dehart. They played awesome tennis and were in every game. ėFirst and second doubles did a fabulous job staying focused, especially considering both Maren and Shannon had to be back for homecoming coronation,î Unverzagt said. At third doubles, Jessica Johnston and Dani Sonnenfeld played great but fell short in two sets. They rallied back in the second, but it was not enough. The team season is over and six players will be gearing up for the individual section tournament Monday, Oct. 20. ©ECM Post Review |
