RC runners enjoy weather, bring home good results from Amery

The Amery Invitational held Oct. 7 lent itself to good luck for both the boys and girls Rush City Cross Country teams.

Unseasonably warm weather may have had the team in exceptional spirits for the day.

The team spend the sunny 86-degree day in good form with few runners not able to compete because of illness.
The boys team finished 7th of 18 competing teams and was third overall in the small school division.

The girls team also received 7th place out of 17 competing teams and was fourth in the small school division.

Best showings for the team were from junior Christine Frandsen who finished 6th of a total of 139 girls who ran that day.

Seventh-grader Andrew Buckholtz brought back an 18th place finish for the team in the 7th and 8th grade competition.

Also with an impressive finish was freshman Josh Dahl who finished the day in 24th of 177 competitors.

ìChristine ran a very good race,î said head coach Kevin Smith. ìShe stayed in the top pack and had a strong finish moving up several spots to win the 6th place medal.î

Smith also recognized the efforts of 8th-grader Samantha Gorman and 7th-grader Michelle Stenger who both placed as varsity runners ìwith very respectable times and places.î

Gorman finished the day in 63rd place out of 139 runners and Stenger came in 46th of 139.

The boys had a great team finish with Noah Reichert (10th) and Jared Dahlberg (11th) running their best races of the year, Smith said.

ìThese kids have a great future if they continue to work hard and stay committed to improvement.î

Overall, Smith said, the team had a very good meet. ìWe ran head-to-head with the large schools and did great. The hard work and practice is paying off,î he said.

The team traveled to Proctor on Tuesday for a meet and has the Section 7A competition Oct. 23 in Cloquet.
