Tigers make history with win over Braham

It wasnít a first-ever win for the Rush City Tigers over the Braham Bombers, but it has been a long time coming.

The Tigers defeated the Bombers 33-16 last Friday to earn the first Rush City win over Braham since 1992.
Rush City set the pace with a touchdown capping off a very successful opening drive in the first quarter.

In the series, Tim Karnick had runs of 13, 8 and 12 yards. The series ended with a 43-yard run by quarterback Brent Freeman. The extra point kick was no good, for a 6-0 Rush City lead after one quarter.

Kris Guentzel caught passes of 17 yards and 12 yards in the second quarter, and Willie Barth added runs of 7 and 8 yards each to set up Rush Cityís next score. Karnick ran it in from 7 yards for a 12-0 lead. Again, the extra point kick was no good.

On its following possession, the Tigers scored again, coming on a 22 yard pass to Barth, a 33 yard run from Karnick, a 10 yard run from Freeman and ending with a 23-yard TD run from Karnick. Freeman ran the ball in for a successful two-point attempt, leaving Rush City ahead 20-0 at the half.

In the third quarter, Braham worked the ball downfield and scored on a 4 yard run and passed into the endzone for the two-point conversion, ending the third with a 30-8 Rush City lead.

Dan Gamache started the fourth with an interception for the Tigers, setting up another score. Freeman passed a 49-yard bomb to Kevin Bengtson in the endzone, and it was followed by a Tim Morris kick for a 27-8 lead.

Braham scored on a 1 yard TD run and made the extra point to come back at 27-15.

The subsequent on-side kick was recovered by Ray Grabau for the Tigers and returned to the 30 yard line.
Karnick ran the ball in 9 yard and 17 yard carries, the second one ending with a touchdown. The extra point from Morris was good, for a 33-16 Rush City win.

Morris had a stellar night for the team, coming away with two fumble recoveries and one interception. Grabau had one fumble recovery.

ìThe team played well all four quarters,î Head Coach Gary Wendorf said. ìIt was the seniors last conference game and they came out to play and really put pressure on their quarterback.î

The Tigers end the regular season tonight, Oct. 15, against Zimmerman, coming in with a 5-2 overall record.
