Vikes volleyball has 1-1 week

The North Branch volleyball squad split a pair of conference games last week, falling to St. Michael-Albertville Oct. 7 and then picking up a win over Princeton Oct. 9.

The Vikings won the first game 25-21 against St. Michael, but fell in the next three for the loss, 25-20, 25-15, 25-23.

ěSt. Michael was not very tall, but they have some great athletes who play defense very well,î Head Coach Jim VanEerden said.

Rachel Brown led the Vikes with 10 kills and 6 blocks, while Jenny Anderson added 7 kills and 6 blocks.

Parentís Night brought a win against Princeton last Thursday in three games, 25-19, 25-12, 25-17. ěIt was a great night for the team,î Van Eerden said. ěThe parents and fans have been so supportive all year long and it was great to pay tribute to them and the seniors tonight.î

Senior setter Abby Fairbanks played a great match for the Vikings, serving a perfect 22 of 22 with 5 aces and finished with 27 setting assists. Junior Mandy Warzala also played well with 4 kills and serving 5 of 5. She led the team defensively with her precise passing.

The teamís conference record stands at 6-2. North Branch is scheduled to close out the regular season schedule this week with games Tuesday against Pine City and Wednesday against Hibbing before section preliminaries begin Monday, Oct. 20.
