Esther Gunderson

Beloved Esther...a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Her funeral service was held Friday, Oct. 17, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund. Interment at Almelund Cemetery. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minn.

Esther arrived in this world Oct. 20. 1914 on a farm near Kerkhoven, ;Minn. She was born the daughter of Fred and Martha Berger. She was the oldest of nine children.

Esther was united in marriage on May 22, 1932 to Melvin Gunderson. Together the couple worked farming in Wisconsin for a time. They moved to the Almelund, Minn. area in 1936 where they farmed.

It is here that they raised two sons. Esther worked hard with farm chores, and was a member of a local garden group, enjoyed her yard and outdoors. Esther also found time to do sewing, handwork, and knitting.

All of her grandchildren remember the many hats, mittens, sweaters and scarves that her loving hands created.

Her pathway to heaven was prepared by the passing of her parents: Fred and Martha Berger; her husband Melvin; four brothers: Elmer, Harry, Elroy, Clarence; three sisters: Betty, Phyllis, Jeanette; one sister-in-law: Genevieve; many friends and neighbors.

She will be loved and missed by those she left behind: two sons: Lowell (Mary) Gunderson of Shafer, Minn.; DeWayne (Wanda) Gunderson of Taylors Falls, Minn.; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. A sister, Ruth Sletten of Spicer, Minn.; two sisters-in-law: Esther Berger of Alexandria, Minn., Genevieve Berger of Kerkhoven, Minn., many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
