Howard Neil KurtzHoward Neil Kurtz, of Harris, Minn., died after a short illness on Oct. 15, 2003, at Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center, Wyoming, Minn. He was born on June 20, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minn. and at the time of his death had lived a full and complete life of 78 years, three months, and 25 days. Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. at Harris Covenant Church, with a police honor guard, and his beloved grandsons serving as pall bearers. Internment was at Harris Covenant Cemetery, Harris, Minn. A long-time resident of Harris, Howard was an active member of his community, having served a long and distinguished career as a Deputy Sheriff in the Chisago County Sheriffís Department, and an equally devoted life of service to the fellowship of Harris Covenant Church. It was also the nature and quality of his personal life that most endeared him to the hearts and minds of all those with whom he came into contact. He had an extraordinary passion for life itself, and, with his wife, Jeanette, fostered a remarkable and loving home for his beloved family. It was also his great love and compassion for others that endeared him throughout his life to the countless co-workers and friends whose love and friendship he so naturally cultivated. He took an intense interest in the lives of young and old alike, and had a tremendous impact on all those he met. His passing leaves a large and empty vacuum in the lives of his family, community and friends. But his life serves as a tremendous testimony to his love for his Lord, his family and friends, and to the eternal rest and peace he now so richly and deservedly enjoys in the loving arms of his Savior. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Ernest and Irene (Hutson) Kurtz, and by his three brothers: Don, George, and Bob Kurtz. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanette, of Harris, and by his six daughters, 16 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, in who Howard too such great joy and pride: Janice and Steve Balfanz of North Branch, Minn., and their son, Chad and wife Sarah Balfanz, and their daughter, Stephanie Balfanz; Jerilyn and Steve Shodahl, of North Branch, and their daughters, Emily and Erin Shodahl; Julie and Phil Perrault of North Branch, and their children, Jennifer, Greg, and Brian Perrault; Janie and Bob Larson of Bertha, Minn. and their children: Justin and wife Amanda Lind and Children Taylor and Kaylee, Jason and wife Nyoaka Lind and daughter Nessa, Lacey Lind, and Jennifer Larson; Jenae and Jeff Kvale, of Harris, and their children Tabitha, Tara Blake and Brandon Kvale; and Joy Heilmer and friend Denny Ludivissie, of North Branch, and daughter Livingston Heilmer. ©ECM Post Review |
