Mavis V. Johnson

Mavis Virginia Johnson, daughter of Merrill and Ethyl (Madison) Hibbard, was born March 10, 1922 in Wishek, North Dakota. She lived in Wishek until 1933 when she moved with her family to Minneapolis.

While attending Patrick Henry High School, Mavis met her future husband, Vernon Johnson, who was a fellow student there. They were married Sept. 26, 1938, and together they raised their family of eight children.

Later in life Mavis trained to become a nurseís aide, retiring from that profession in 1982.

She loved gardening, crocheting, knitting, working crossword puzzles, watching her soap operas and ìJudge Judy.î Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mavis is survived by her children: Lee and Kathy Johnson of Pine River, Minn., Denise and Gary Anderson of Pine City, Nicole and Leslie Larson of Garrison, Minn., Jon and Kitty Johnson of North Branch, Minn., Linda and Ray Schlosser of Rush City, Kimberly Johnson of Henriette, Minn., and Robin and Tom Halek of Rush City, 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sister and brother-in-law Karen and Dick Wagner of Minneapolis, nieces, nephews, and her loving pet ìHoney.î

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethyl Olschefski, father Merrill Hibbard, her childrenís father, Vernon Johnson, son Loren Johnson, and great-grandson, Drew Wold.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Oct. 16 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City with Reverend Jack Koch officiating. Music was provided by Ms. Pat Stenmo. Interment was in the Birchwood Cemetery of Pine City.
