RC runners prepare for section meet

The Rush City cross country teams ended the regular season with the Proctor Invitational Oct. 14.

The girls varsity turned in a solid performance for a third place finish ñ just three points out of second place. The boys squad was seventh out of eleven teams.

Christine Frandsen led the varsity with a ninth place finish at 17:14. Josh Dahl led the boys in ninth place as well, at 18:58.

Michelle Stenger captured first place in the junior varsity race, with a time of 19:10. Kelly Moore was close behind at 19:40 for third place and Janet Kemen finished fifth at 20:25.

Jon Meis was second for JV boys, with a time of 20:53 and Alex Saumer was tenth at 21:48.

ìIt was a tough meet because Class A and Class AA schools race together,î Head Coach Kevin Smith said. ìEven though they are scored separately the races are much more competitive when they race everyone together.î

ìThe pack running by the boys was exceptional, and the girls also had a nice pack with 56 seconds of separation,î he said.

This week, the teams prepare for the Section 7A meet Thursday, Oct. 23 at Cloquet.
