Nancy Jeanette Freed Williams

Nancy Jeanette Freed Williams departed this life on Sept. 29, 2003.
A memorial service was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Almelund on Friday, Oct. 3. A memorial service with final interment will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. In lieu of flowers, Nancy requests donations to the Cancer Society of America or Susan G. Komen Breast Center of Dallas, Texas.
Nancy was born Oct. 26, 1951 in St. Croix Falls, Wisc. to John and Edna (Frenning) Freed of Taylors Falls. She attended Taylors Falls Public School and graduated in 1969.
She attended St. Cloud State College, where she graduated with a bachelor of science in elementary education and a minor in library science. In September 1972, she moved to San Diego, Calif. Her first job was as a teller for the Bank of America. She worked her way up through the ranks with her last job being the manager of a small branch.
Nancy was married to Billy Williams, Sr. on Dec. 26, 1976, in San Diego, Calif. She and her husband raised one son, Billy, Jr.
In 1995 she became a financial clerk for the San Diego School District at an inner city middle school.
Her cancer was diagnosed December 1995. Surgery and chemotherapy put the cancer in remission until 1999.
Nancy moved back to Minnesota in January 2002. Nancy enjoyed gardening and would spend all day doing yard work instead of housework. As a result of growing up on a farm, she strongly believed that every child should spend at least one week (if not two) during the summer, working on a farm to appreciate their personal lives and families.
Nancy was a collector of agates. Her collection mainly consisted of ones found on the farm road, in the hollow, and in the curve of the road.
Nancy is survived by her mother, Edna Freed of North Branch, son and daughter-in-law, Billy (Kimberly) Williams, Jr., of Sacramento, Calif., brothers and sisters, Barbara (Terry) LaCanne of Kenyon, Minn., Dennis (Karen) Freed of Lindstrom, Minn., Gerald (Roberta) Freed of Little Falls, Minn., mother-in-law, Betty Williams of Los Angeles, Calif., and four grandchildren: Chaz, Ashia, Zakia, and Niyah; aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews as well as many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, husband Billy, father, John Freed, father-in-law, Joe Williams, and brother-in-law, Calvin Stuard.
