NB volleyball earns another conference win

The North Branch volleyball team improved its regular match win streak to four with a win over Milaca Sept. 30.
The three game win came by close scores of 26-24, 25-18, 25-16. The win put the Vikings in very favorable position in the Rum River Conference, just one win behind first-place St. Michael-Albertville.
North Branch was set to face STMA Tuesday at home; Head Coach Jim VanEerden said it was a crucial match. ìIt could determine the conference champion,î he said. ìThe Milaca win put us in great position.î
The squad also traveled to Lakeville for a tournament last weekend, coming away with an 11th place finish in the prestigious event.
The team earned wins over Red Wing and Champlin Park, and fell to Mayer Lutheran and Hopkins. VanEerden was pleased with the effort.
ìThe team played very well and is continuing to improve,î he said.
Seniors Kaity Vichorek and Rachel Brown led the team with strong passing, and Vichorek led with 35 kills, while Brown had 26.
VanEerden also noted the improving play of middle hitters Jenny Anderson and Kaia Nyberg.
This week, the squad faced STMA Tuesday and Princeton Thursday in two home games, starting at 7:00 p.m.
