J. F. Wilmar Johnson

John Fridolph Wilmar Johnson died unexpectedly at his rural Pine City home on Aug. 30, 2003 at the age of 86 years.
Funeral services were held noon on Thursday, Sept. 4, at Living Hope Christian Center in Pine City with Pastor Rod Kimbler officiating. Several songs were sung in Swedish by Vernon Johnson accompanied by pianist Jackie Kimbler. Casketbearers were: Randy Johnson, Dwight Johnson, Dana Johnson, Wendell Ericksson, Richard Almquist, and Kenneth Almquist. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Almelund, Minn. Arrangements were made by the Swanson Funeral Chapel of Pine City, Minn.
Wilmar, the son of John and Amanda (nee Johnson) Johnson, was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Amador Township, Chisago County, Minn. The Johnson farm was located a few miles northwest of Almelund, Minn., and the family attended Immanuel Lutheran Church where Wilmar was baptized and confirmed.
As a young man, Wilmar purchased his own farm located just a few miles from the farm he grew up on. He was united in marriage to Arleen Middleton of St. Paul, Minn. on May 25, 1957 and they made their home on the farm. Both Wilmar and Arleen were active participants in the affairs of their community and Wilmar served on the Immanuel Church Board as well as the Almelund Creamery Board.
In 1976, they retired from farming and purchased a home near Pine City, Minn. While
living there, Wilmar was employed by the Dairy Herd Improvement Association for many years, and more recently was an employee of Walmart of Pine City.
He is survived by his wife, Arleen, his sister Emeline Almquist of Minneapolis, sister-in-law Dorothy Johnson of Almelund, nieces and nephews: Dana (Dana Mary) Johnson, Tom Almquist, Richard (Ann) Almquist, Kenneth (Rhonda) Almquist, Linda (Wendell) Eriksson, Annette (Peter) Korolchuk, as well as other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Amanda Johnson, his brother, Vernold Johnson, and foster son Ben Garbow.
