RC football aims to pick up pace with first win

By Barbara Brown
The opening drive of the Rush City game against Aitkin last Friday was the highlight of the night for coach Gary Wendorf.
Wendorf said the drive, on which the team scored, set the tone for the 32-8 routing Rush City handed to the Gobblers.
ėThe offense came out and set the tone for the game by scoring on the first series and the defense followed,î Wendorf said.
In the drive, two passes to Willie Barth and a run play by Tim Karnick secured the 6 points.
A second touchdown run by Brent Freeman and a 30-yard run by Tim Karnick brought additional points.
Kris Guentzel had fire in his feet after completing a 50 yard pass and run touchdown.
Barth showed his talents a second time during a 34-yard pass and run play.
The Tiger defense was given a pat on the back by Wendorf. He said the defensive line held Aitkin to less than 100 rushing yards total in the game.
Selected as players of the game were Brent Freeman who secured 185 yards passing, Tim Karnick who garnered 105 yards rushing and Willie Barth who had 54 yards rushing and 70 yards receiving.
ėWe played well the entire game,î Wendorf said. ėThe kids were ready to play after the long bus ride.î
Wendorf said the team will take the weekís practices to improve on its current strong points, but he also wants the team to focus on reducing the number of turnovers it gives out during a game.
ėTurnovers will hurt us later on in close games,î Wendorf said.
The Tigers take on Hinckley-Finlayson at the Tigers stadium Friday Sept. 12.
