Arthur R. Swenson
Arthur Raymond Swenson died Aug. 31, 2003 at Green Acres Country Care Center in North Branch, Minn. at the age of 93 years. Arthur was born April 24, 1910 at Minneapolis, Minn. to Swedish immigrant parents, Eric and Hilda (nee Swenson) Swenson. While still very young he moved with his family to a farm near the St. Croix River. He grew up there and attended Malcome School. In December of 1935, Arthur was united in marriage to Mabel Johnson. They made their home on a farm in rural Rush City, Minn. They farmed four different farms in the area south of Rush City; purchasing the fourth and making their home for a period of 20 years. Farming was the joy of their life, but in 1969 they sold their farm and moved to Rush City where Arthur kept a small garden. He worked for Donovan Construction in the Twin Cities for two years; was employed at the Rush City Co-operative; and kept himself busy doing odd jobs for people. An avid deer hunter, Arthur usually couldnít sleep the night before deer season opened. He would be up and in the barn at 4 a.m. to milk the cows so he could be in the woods before daybreak. He was a crack shot, and one season bagged seven deer. Art was a champion finger puller, and just couldnít be beat. Arthur and Mabel were excellent dancers, attending a dance somewhere every Saturday night. All in all, Art enjoyed his life no matter what he was doing. Arthur is survived by his sons: Donald of Minneapolis, and Darryl of Rush City; sister-in-law: Delores Swenson, Minnetonka, Minn., Bernice Johnson, St. Paul, Minn., Helen Johnson and Gladys Caroon, both of Grantsburg, Wisc.; brother-in-law: Marlly Johnson, St. Paul; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Hilda Swenson; his wife, Mabel; and infant daughter, Nancy Jo; sister, Hillive Finkleson; and brother, Roy Swenson. Funeral service was held. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the First Lutheran Church in Harris, Minn. The Reverend Michael Likens officiated. Organist was Carolyn Holmstrom and soloist was Jon Ekstrom. Casket bearers were Tom Ploog, Steven Ploog, Matthew Ploog, Jerry Caroon, Mike Just, and Harley Twingstrom. Interment was at First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City. Arrangements were by the Olson Chapel, Funeral & Cremation Service, Rush City, Minn.
