Garfield C. Mohn

Garfield Clayton Mohn, of Almelund, passed away Sept. 9, 2003 at the age of 83 years, 8 months.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund. Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Center City. Arrangements by the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom.
Garfield was born to August and Anna (Borg) Mohn on Feb. 9, 1920 in Almelund, Minn.
He was baptized in 1920 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was confirmed in 1935 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He remained a member of Immanuel.
He attended Almelund Grade School through the 8th grade. He worked on the farm with his dad and continued working with his brother, Maynard. Garfield was always proud of the farm that his grandfather John Mohn homesteaded in 1871.
Garfield, along with his mother and brother, Maynard helped to raise nephew Paul Mohn.
Garfield was the cook and housekeeper after the death of his mother in 1971. He enjoyed planting and growing flowers all around the house ñ he had a good green thumb ñ they grew well for him. It was a must to have a vegetable garden to grow their favorite vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes and beans.
He enjoyed having company come to visit and recall the good old times. Swedish visitors were always welcome and he looked forward to their visits each year.
Threshing shows were one of his events to go to watch the tractor parade and visit with former friends and neighbors who came back yearly for the show.
He also enjoyed this time of the year to take an apple shopping trip with Emroy Swenson to the Pleasant Valley Apple Orchard.
Thanks to all who visited with Garfield and/or remembered him in other ways.
