Defensive lapse key in 3-1 loss
The North Branch girls soccer squad continued to suffer through what Head Coach Kristen Hetland refers to as ìan intensity droughtî last week, falling to Chisago Lakes 3-1. Heather Schwab scored the lone goal of the game for the Vikings in the second half, despite North Branch commanding the ball for much of the first half. ìWe also got quite a few shots off in the first half,î Hetland said. ìChisago had only a handful of shots, but managed to get two goals. ìWe had a break down both times on defense and Chisago was good enough to capitalize on our mistakes.î Hetland said the intensity simply wasnít there to give North Branch a shot at a win in the second half. The team went on to lose 11-0 to Centennial Sept. 12 and 2-1 to Cooper Sept. 13. Dottie Graff scored the lone goal for the Vikings against Cooper. Hetland was pleased with the play of Marlayna Graff, Dottie Graff and goal keeper Julia Call in the Cooper game, and said Centennial is a state-tournament caliber team. The squad faced Rogers on the road Tuesday and hosts International School Thursday in a 5:00 p.m. game this week.
