RC runners continue to turn in top performances

The Rush City cross country teams continue to turn in stellar times at meets against some tough opponents, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with this season.
At the Pine City Invitational Sept. 4, the girls team took third, led by Christine Frandsen in third place, with a time of 16:32. Kayla Witte finished 11th with a time of 17:48.
Amber Hoffman was second in the JV race with a time of 9:05.
The JV boys team turned in outstanding times and captured first at the meet. Josh Dahl took first in the race with a time of 18:52. Zach Johnson was second with a time of 19:48, Noah Reichert was fourth with a time of 20:13 and Matt Wuorinen was 11th with a time of 21:27.
Frandsen and Witte packed a one-two punch at the Mora Invitation Sept. 9, as Frandsen took first at17:11 and Witte was second at 17:51. Brittany Frandsen was eighth at 18:50. The times were good enough for a first place finish for the girls team in the meet.
The boys squad took second in the meet, led by Dahl in second at 19:00 and Johnson in eighth at 20:12.
ìBoth the boys and girls stayed closer to teammates in their races,î Head Coach Kevin Smith said. ìChristine and Kayla went out hard over the hilly course and set the pace to pull away from the competition.î
At the North Branch Invitational Sept. 11, the girls team captured second and the boys were fourth, while the JV girls team took first place honors.
The girls varsity race showed three Tiger runners in the top 11, led by Frandsen in fourth at 16:47, Witte in sixth at 17:00 and Brittany Frandsen in 11th at 17:43.
ìOur top three girls had very fast times,î Smith said. ìThey are starting to minimize the gapes between each other in their races.î
Dahl again led the boys varsity, coming in third with a time of 17:59.
ìHe ran an excellent race with a personal best time,î Smith said. ìJosh was very aggressive, leading for much of the first 1,000 meters and is gaining valuable racing experience each meet.î
Kelly Moore led the JV team with a second place finish at 19:13. Kayla Johnson was fifth with a time of 20:06 and Derra Gullickson was sixth with a time of 20:08.
This week the teams participated in a meet at Rice Lake Tuesday and at the Princeton Invitational Saturday.
