North Branchís Laffin returns to ring, wins pro debut
By Greg Hunt Brad Laffin of North Branch resumed his boxing career with a successful pro debut on Sept. 6. Laffin, who now resides in West St. Paul, faced Matt Anderson of Northeast Minneapolis in the Super Heavyweight event on the Sept. 6 card at Spikers in Fridley, starting off his pro career 1-0 when he recorded a TKO in the third round of the four-round fight. Laffin was coming off a four-month layoff from boxing after he suffered a broken orbital bone in his face while placing 2nd in the Golden Gloves Upper Midwest Region finals. ìI took this last fight really dry, and I just got clearance to fight the Friday before the event,î said Laffin. ìI have been training hard and am bigger and stronger than I was earlier in my Golden Gloves career.î Laffin, who is 6'4" and now fights at 257 lbs., said he is anxious to get back into the ring as soon as possible for his next pro fight. He wanted to thank the family and friends who showed up for his pro debut. He also gives special thanks to trainer Ray Nelson who helped him along with his boxing skills while he was recuperating.
