Boys lose two in a row
The North Branch boys soccer squad showed plenty of determination during two games last week, despite coming up on the losing end in both contests. On Sept. 13, the Vikings faced No. St. Paul at home and were shut out 5-0. North Branch kept the game within reach after one half, as the Polars held a 1-0 lead. They went on to score 4 goals in the second half, despite a strong effort by the Vikes. ìThe game felt closer than the score indicates,î Assistant Coach Brad Gustafson said. ìI'm proud of the fight, drive, and teamwork the team displayed in the match.î Rogers handed the Vikes its second loss of the week Sept. 16, in a close 3-2 game. Gustafson said it was a tough loss for the squad. ìWe had lots of offense and shots but just couldnít get them to the back of the net,î he said. Rogers capitalized on the few scoring opportunities they had. DJ Paulson scored both goals for the Vikings, assisted both times by Andy Kittelson. This week, the Vikes have only one game scheduled, coming against Chisago Lakes Thursday at home, with a 4:30 p.m. start.
