RC puts lots up for sale

By MaryHelen Swanson
Looking for a lot on which to build a home in Rush City? Anyone interested should know that the city has just put four lots located on West 12th Street up for bids.
The lots, running from 14,500 sq. feet to 18,400 sq. feet will have a starting bid price of $29,500, as recommended by City Administrator Daniel Hoffman. All utilities are in and paid, there will be no assessments to the winner bidder, according to Hoffman.
The base price was set close to that of some of the lots in the Rush Creek development which sell for around $30,000, Hoffman noted.
A fact sheet about each of the lots is available at City Hall. Bids will be opened Oct. 24.
At the councilís regular meeting Monday night, Sept. 22, the council reviewed liquor store financial reports. The total revenues for on-sale sales are down from this same time last year nearly $20,000, but off-sale revenues are up from just over $214,000 in 2002 to $228,900.
Taking into consideration total operating expenses, the bottom line is a year-to-date profit of $19,764 compared to $14,644 in 2002.
Liquor store manager Carol Hanson asked the council if she could make employee Donnette Kennedy a full-time employee, saying she is already putting in full-time hours but not getting the benefits. It was noted that there are four part-time employees at the liquor store/bar now. The council decided to turn the issue over to the liquor store committee and return with a decision at a later date.
In other business, the council:
ï Approved payment of bills in the amount of $26,261.02.
ï Set a public hearing for a grant application for a Small Cities grant for the senior housing project the city is working on for 7:10 p.m., Oct. 13. Funds from the grant would be used to cover part of the construction costs.
ï Approved an agreement for the service road at the Holiday Stationstore. The first 240 feet will be paid out of the highway project funds, the remaining 335 foot section is the obligation of the landowners through a 15-year assessment at 5 percent interest.
ï Approved a hangar lease for Adrian Poynter of Forest Lake.
ï Learned from Councilman Bill Schneider that a couple of people in the city have complained of discolored water, and he noted that he, too, had rusty brown water recently. Mayor Mike Skalsky said in the past, homeowners have called public works manager and he has gone out right away to check their water. Hoffman said he would check out these new complaints.
ï Heard, during public comment, from Mike Robinson who asked questions about the proposed changes in the cityís zoning ordinance. He questioned making it illegal to park cars on oneís property and having to have a storage shedís siding match the ownerís home siding.
