Bernhard (Barney) John Beise, 81, son of Walter and Frieda (Quandt) Beise was born on the home farm near Rush Point, on Dec. 27, 1921. He passed away on Aug. 29, 2003 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora.

Barney grew up in the Rush Point area. He was baptized at St. Johnís Lutheran in Rush City, and confirmed in 1936 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rush Point, where he remained a lifelong member. He attended District 24 School through the eighth grade.

He married Helen Mickelsen on Sept. 14, 1940 in St. Paul. They lived in the Rush Point area their entire married life, except for a few months in St. Paul when they were first married and the past two years in the Park Manor Apartments in Braham.

They moved off the home farm in 1974, then for one year to another farm they owned, and in 1975 they moved to their retirement home south of Rush Point. On May 12, 2001, they had an auction and moved to Braham.

Barney was a very hard working, successful farmer. As his family grew, so did his farm. He added more farmland and cows to keep his four sons busy. The herd grew from 20 to 150 cows over a period of 45 years. His was one of the first farms in the area to have a bulk tank and have a Grade ìAî dairy.

Barney was very active in his church and community. At Calvary Lutheran, he served on the Property Committee, the Church Council and the Cemetery Board.

He was the secretary-treasurer of the Rush Point Rural Telephone Co., and served on the Nessel Town Board, ASCS Board, and was president of the Rush Point Leisure Club.

Barney enjoyed many leisure activities. In his younger years, he played softball in the Rush Lake area. He was on the first bowling league formed in Pine City and continued bowling for over 30 years on a variety of leagues.

He also threw horseshoes in many tournaments and leagues around the area and in Arizona. He was an avid deer hunter and shot his last deer near his home

at age 80. Barney also loved to make jigsaw puzzles, and play cards and games.

Barney and Helen spent their winters in Arizona beginning in 1983 and continued for 16 years. They have traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, and many other places. Sept. 14, 2003 would be their 63rd wedding anniversary. We will miss his quick smile and big hugs.

Bernhard is survived by: wife, Helen Beise of Braham; sons: Jerry and Carrie Beise of Rush Point, Gordy and Pat Beise of Stacy, John and Myra Beise of Rush Point, Wally and Paulie Beise of Cambridge; daughters: Barb and Dick Hanson of Brook Park, Sue and Russ Danson of Rush City; sisters: Ellanora Anderson of Rush City, Lona Musil of Cambridge; 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and six great-great- grandchildren.
