ECE customers donít have to fill out meter cards anymore

From East Central Energy
Local ECE power customers will receive will no longer have to complete meter reading cards to send to the power company.

East Central Energy recently completed a multi-year transition project that converted residential power accounts to be read by an automated meter reading system (AMR).

After analysis and testing of various products, East Central Energy decided that making a transition to an AMR system using the cooperativeís own power lines to transport data would be most beneficial to residential customers and the cooperative.

Convenience is not the only benefit to East Central Energy member-owners, the company said. Accuracy and efficiency in the billing process also should improve with the system.

AMR technology puts East Central Energy at the vanguard of efficient customer accounting, said Kari Pangerl, ECE customer service supervisor and AMR project manager.

Errors and lag time should be reduced, and the companyís dispatchers are able to verify individual outages, improving efforts to restore power in case of an outage, the company said.
ECE is receiving continuous energy data from more than 62,000 AMR units called Turtles, manufactured by Pequot Lakes-based Hunt Technologies, a market leader in AMR technology.
