Stay comfortable while receiving chiropractic careBy Barbara Brown Dr. Peaslee is one of five chiropractors in the state that are affiliates of HomeCare Chiropractic. The practice of going to patient homes for their treatments gives Dr. Peaslee time to get to know his patients better than many other doctors, he said. Including travel time between patient visits, Dr. Peaslee said his roster is full with only a few appointments each day, which keeps his overall patient load low, he said. ìIt is really a relaxed way of practicing,î Dr. Peaslee said. ìThe patient is more relaxed because they are in a more comfortable place and I can get to know them better.î Less than 15 percent of Americaís population sees a chiropractor, Dr. Peaslee said. He said that statistic could be so low because a lot of people have a misconception about the care they would receive from chiropractors. While most people look at chiropractors as solely ìback doctors,î Dr. Peaslee said he was trained to treat every joint in the body. After graduating from the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Ill., Dr. Peaslee became an associate in a sports medicine office. There he treated the injuries of high school, amateur and professional athletes. Dr. Peaslee said even children can be treated with chiropractic care. He said he adjusted his daughter, Emerson, the day she was born and he plans to do the same for the new baby on the way soon. He said chiropractic care can help relieve earaches and colic in children. Chiropractic treatments are not limited to the young and able-bodied, Dr. Peaslee said. People as old as 100 ñ even older ñ can find relief for aches and pains through chiropractic care. Dr. Peaslee said he takes a ìteam approachî to all-around health care. He said he will often ask patients if they had consulted their medical doctors before contacting a chiropractor for their pains. If not, Dr. Peaslee said he makes contact with the personís doctor so everyone knows who the patient is seeing and what treatments he or she is receiving. ìChiropractic techniques are amazing tools,î Dr. Peaslee said, ìbut they donít cure everything. We need to work together with the patient to make sure all the bases are covered when it comes to their health care. ìMy goal is to get people to go from passive care where someone does the procedure to them to active care where they are learning how to respond to and take care of their bodies more independently.î Dr. Peaslee said that while HomeCare Chiropractic is not a member of any insurance group, the doctors do submit paperwork on the patients behalf to their insurance company for reimbursement. Before any reimbursements, cost for the first visit by Dr. Peaslee is between $60 and $100. The first session includes taking medical history and doing background work on the patientís needs. Treatment sessions cost about $40 each, but the cost may vary depending upon the patient and treatment, Dr. Peaslee said. ìThese really are affordable house calls for the busy person,î Dr. Peaslee said. ìMaybe you donít like going to doctors offices, maybe youíre too busy to make an appointment or maybe youíve had an emergency where you canít even get out of bed ñ thatís whatís great about a chiropractor coming to your home.î While Dr. Peaslee focuses on afternoon and evening appointments, he is available most times any day.
