Realignment of County Road 84 needed for potential Polaris siteBy MaryHelen Swanson Polaris, manufacturers of snowmobiles and four-wheelers, is considering a site near Wyoming as well as one in Osceola, Wisc. According to Chisago County EDA-HRA director Chris Eng, the Polaris proposal is the biggest business deal in the works in Minnesota right now. He told the county commissioners last week that besides the research and development division, Polaris is talking about having the new facility be their purchasing headquarters. That, Eng said, would mean people coming from all over the world. The potential with that prospect is that the area will need to provide more motels, restaurants and businesses to handle an visiting business people. One of the necessary items required if Polaris chooses the Wyoming site is a realignment of County Road 84. Eng told the commissioners that it would cost about $1 million to do the work, but that there is a state grant that would cover the cost. The good news in getting Polaris to the Wyoming site might be that the city of Wyoming could connect to a regional sewer project with the cost being paid by the funds brought in from Polaris. The county board unanimously agreed to direct staff to proceed to work with the state on obtaining a grant for the road realignment. The city of North Branch also had hopes of being the site for the Polaris facility. Polaris has not made a decision, but Eng believes the decision will be between Wyoming or Osceola. ©ECM Post Review |
